Rehearse NCLEX Test Day, Before Test Day
Test-day mode turns the free adaptive exam into a proctored rehearsal: a locked screen, webcam checks, a 5-hour clock that keeps running on breaks, no going back, and an integrity report when you finish. Nothing on exam day should be a surprise.
Why rehearse the conditions, not just the questions
Most NCLEX practice happens on a couch with a phone nearby, the freedom to pause, and the option to go back. Test day is different: your belongings are in a locker, the clock never stops, every answer is final, and someone is watching. Practicing under those conditions at least once means the room, the rules, and the clock feel familiar, so your attention goes to the questions.
Test day vs. test-day mode
| At the NCLEX testing center | In NCLEXSim test-day mode | |
|---|---|---|
| Check-in | Photo, signature, and palm vein scan, then you sign the candidate statement. | You agree to the candidate rules and take a check-in photo with a face check. Your name is watermarked on the screen. |
| Your belongings | Phones and devices go in a sealed bag in a locker. Watches, notes, food, and drinks stay outside the room. | You confirm no phones, smartwatches, notes, or other devices are within reach. Screenshot keys and shortcuts are blocked and logged. |
| Monitoring | You test in a monitored room, and irregular behavior is reported. | Optional webcam checks flag a covered camera, no face, a second person, or looking away for too long. Every time you leave the window is recorded. |
| The clock | 5 hours total, including breaks. The clock doesn't stop. | The same 5-hour clock, and it keeps running on breaks. |
| Breaks | Optional breaks are offered after about 2 hours and again after about 3½ hours. | Take breaks the same way, on a running clock, so you can practice your timing. |
| Answers | Once you submit an answer, you can't go back. | The same. Every answer is final. |
| Tools | An on-screen calculator and an erasable note board. | An on-screen calculator on every item. Keep one blank sheet or a small whiteboard as your note board. |
| Breaking the rules | Results can be withheld or canceled. | Irregularities are logged, and you can choose to have the exam end automatically after repeated irregularities. |

Your integrity report
For nursing programs
Faculty can ask students to complete a proctored practice exam before graduation and review the results and integrity reports together. It's a simple way to see who is ready for test-day conditions, not just test-day content. Learn about NCLEXSim.
Run a full rehearsal
- Block 5 uninterrupted hours, ideally at the same time of day as your NCLEX appointment.
- Use a laptop or desktop in a quiet room. Put your phone in another room and clear the desk except for one blank sheet.
- Start the full exam with test-day mode on, and turn on the webcam if you have one.
- Take your breaks at about 2 hours and 3½ hours, and notice how long they really take on a running clock.
- Afterward, review your category scores and your integrity report. Fix one habit before the next rehearsal.
Common questions
Is this an official proctored NCLEX exam?
No. NCLEXSim is an independent practice tool. Test-day mode recreates the conditions of the real exam so you can rehearse them, but it is not run, scored, or recognized by NCSBN or Pearson VUE.
Does the webcam record or upload video?
No. Webcam checks run entirely on your own device. No video or images are uploaded or stored, and your check-in photo is discarded when you leave the results page.
Do I need a webcam?
No. You can take a test-day exam without a camera. Fullscreen, focus tracking, breaks, and the integrity report still work.
What does the integrity report show?
A status of Clean, Minor flags, or Irregular, a session ID, the name you typed for the watermark, time used, breaks taken, and a time-stamped list of every event, such as leaving the window or another person appearing on camera. You can download it as a PDF.
Can my instructor see my integrity report?
If you take the exam while signed in to your NCLEXSim account, site administrators can see your integrity reports along with your exam summaries. Schools that use NCLEXSim with their students can use these reports to review practice under test-day conditions.
What device should I use?
A laptop or desktop computer, like the one you'll use at the testing center. Phones and some tablets don't support locked fullscreen.
Is it free?
Yes. Test-day mode is included with the free adaptive exam.
Webcam checks run on your device. No video or images are uploaded or stored. NCLEXSim's integrity report is a practice record, not a Pearson VUE or NCSBN record.
