Management of Care is one of the eight client needs categories in the NCSBN NCLEX-RN test plan. Expect questions on Prioritization, Delegation, Informed consent, Advance directives, HIPAA, and Ethics.
How to study Management of Care
Work every 'who first' item through the same ladder: airway, breathing, circulation; then unstable before stable, acute before chronic, actual before potential.
Delegation: the RN keeps initial assessment, care planning, teaching, evaluation, and any unstable client. LPNs take stable, predictable clients. Assistive personnel take routine tasks such as vital signs on stable clients, hygiene, feeding without swallowing risk, and ambulation.
Know the legal set cold: who explains a procedure vs. who witnesses consent, advance directives and proxies, restraint orders, leaving against medical advice, HIPAA, and mandatory reporting.
After each prioritization question, say out loud why each of the other clients can safely wait. If you can't, you guessed.
